Living in Compton, California can be motivating for a woman who is surrounded by many talented people. Up and down the street and all around the blocks I see and hear people trying hard to hone their artistic skills. Now sure enough I’m a late bloomer, or so they say. Cause I’ve been singing from my soul in the churches and in my kitchen for a long time now. Home Cookin’ was a natural for me … just a good old blues shuffle. And whatever your taste may be, this song has got you covered. Could you pass the broccoli please?

I suppose most everyone has done someone wrong at one time or another. Now… don’t get me talkin’. So, when I was presented with this song to sing, I just loved the gospel feeling in the chorus section, mixed in so well with a blues/rock edge. Todd Robinson gives you a bad to-the-bone solo on this one! The lyrics are straight and simple but I can’t sing this song without my soul being exposed. I suppose most everyone wants a chance to right a wrong!

Oh well, I know the concept might not sound like the blues but this music sure is. The band has it goin’ on and the groove is right in the pocket. Everybody’s got an addiction of some sort. I even heard about some “talk radio host” who liked those blues so much that he’d send his house keeper out to the parking lot to score him some blues. My song writing team really draws a picture here; we can all paint our own desires onto this one. I liked it from the start— It has a nice blues kick with a natural country feel. The bass pops, thanks to Bobby Tsukamoto. And the background vocals have a real raunchy edge. The grass looks greener on the other side, so I gotta go! Oh well, I guess it depends on what side of the fence you’re standing, or maybe it’s just that the grass is greener where it’s watered.

I love the laid back feeling set up in the intro by the drums and piano on this tune. The song makes me feel the pain of the great recession. Anyone who has had hard times, looks forward to the good times. For a lot of people today is as hard as the times of 1929. The world is on a tilt right now, but it just keeps on turning. And when it comes back around, a lot of us want to be ready.

Have you ever been “played” and didn’t really care one bit? I think it was Bill Withers who said, “If it feels this good getting used, then just use me up.” The vibe on this tune is so different from the rest of the CD. The lyrics are smooth, and when I sing a song with this kind of feel, I can just let my soul play away and the words take over and just guide me through the song. The Wrights did this song right with their background harmonies.

Prevention is the way! Fruits and vegetables are the answer! Staying away from most things that come in cardboard boxes or plastic bags (except for good fiber cereals) makes good sense. Let’s support our First Lady’s agenda for better foods to help stop childhood obesity and disease. Would you pass the blueberries please! Because that’s on the menu!

This was the most difficult song vocally for me to sing on the CD. Really challenged my range on this one. A lot of words, but it sure does tell an honest tale of a love sick addiction to the heart. I think they call it the blues. A bad case of anything is a bad case. But a bad case of a lover is just too Riz Raw! Oh does baby have the blues?

Decisions, decisions, decisions! “ Choose one and leave the other behind”. Or how about “Save your neck or save your brother?” What’s it all about today? You tell me, is this how it really ends? Looks like a lot of people these days are weighing things out, more now than before.
